Media Finder for iTunes - is used to easily find lost audio and video files on your computer and add to iTunes. Media Finder can exclude media files that are already in your iTunes Music Library as well as drives and directories.
The
Media Finder can scan any of your hard drives, all of your hard drives or just specific folders that you select. You can also add
exclusions if you want to exclude a drive or directory from the scan. Built-in audio and video player are provided. You can select another audio or video player
or use iTunes if you desire.
The first thing to do is to use the left-most pane to select your
scan selections. You can also add
exclusions (lower-left hand pane) if there are directories or drives you
always want excluded from the scan. Use
Preferences to fine tune the settings for the audio and video files you are interested in. Once you selections are made,
clicking the
Find Media toolbar button will start the scan. The scan can be stopped at any time by clicking the
Stop toolbar button. Once the scan has
completed or is stopped, you may filter the display results using the
Search Filter
.
Scan Results Displayed in tabs- The media found is grouped into Audio, Video and All tab panes.
- Any of the found media files can be played before adding to iTunes if you are not sure you want to add the media.
Files not in iTunes Music Library- By default, all media files not current in your iTunes Music Library are found and displayed. You can use Preferences to include all found media files if you desire.
Search Filter: - The search filter
is used to filter the display based on an input search text filter. e.g. if Beatles is entered, only entries for the Beatles will be displayed.
Enter a blank/empty filter will display all the Find Media results.
Supported audio extensions - Displays the list of supported audio file extensions (comma-delimited). You can edit the list, add to it or replace with you own extensions. Use the check boxes to select just the desired extensions to use.
Supported video extensions - Displays the list of supported video file extensions (comma-delimited). You can edit the list, add to it or replace with you own extensions. Use the check boxes to select just the desired extensions to use.
Minimum File Size- Preferences settings allow you to specify the audio and video file extensions to scan for. You can also decide to use none, any or
- all of the extensions. e.g. if you just want to scan for mp3 files, then just check the mp3 file extension, unselect all of the video extensions, then do a scan.
- You can set a minimum audio and video file size. e.g. include only audio files >= 3MB and video files >= 100 MB.
Pattern Matching- A pattern can also be specified if you are looking for example files beginning with a (e.g. a*).
- If you just selected mp3 files, selected file size of 3MB and a pattern of 'a*' then all mp3 files found that were >- 3MB in size and with a filename beginning with a would be included.
- By default the pattern just matches against the name portion of the media filename. If you select include path, the math is again the full path. The full path math is useful in iTunes organizes folder by artist name e.g. Boston. The filename for Boston might be c:\mylibrary\boston\long_time.mp3 ...
